Discussion Club "Veritas"

On March 30, 2018, in order to create conditions for the disclosure and realization of the creative abilities of students, to activate scientific activity, to master modern techniques and methods of scientific research, to popularize scientific knowledge among students, to provide conditions for self-education of students and exchange of experience in scientific activity, to form active youth life position, the development of organizational skills, the ability to defend their positions reasonably, associations of students with an active life position, striving for their development of skills of speaking skills, the Youth Union of the Branch together with the Student Scientific Society launched the project “Veritas”. The discussion club “Veritas” is definitely a structured public exchange of thoughts between students on topical issues.

The seminar of the discussion club consisted of two parts:

In the first part, the guest of the event, Vikhrov Alexey, assistant lecturer of the Department of Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection, who is the owner of the corporate student award “Golden Star of Gubkin University” and the “Golden Heritage of the World Petroleum Council” awards. In addition, he headed the student section of the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) for many years.

Aleksey Vikhrov delivered a master class, in which he revealed the secrets of improving the skills of a professional speaker and presented material on the topic: “Public Speech. Victory over yourself”.

The second part of the seminar was filled with heated debates on the topic: “Should I enter the master course immediately after graduation?”. Participants in the discussion club were divided into two teams, each of which defended its point of view. The organizers of the discussion club provided the teams with five minutes to prepare weighty arguments in favor of their thoughts and counter-arguments for their competitors.

Teachers A. Vikhrov, H. Ibragimov, M. Ahmedov and N. Turabekov took part in the workshop process. At the end of the speeches of the teams, the members of the panel of judges pointed to the advantages and disadvantages of both sides, and, having consulted, determined the winner. The winner was the team 1, which defended the opinion to gain the practical knowledge first, and then to enter the master course.

During the conversation with the participants of the discussion club, it has been found out that the first seminar left extremely positive emotions for students. The organizers of the discussion club promised to hold similar events on a regular basis.
