Scientists have long figured out how to maintain mental clarity throughout life: it is necessary to constantly develop your thinking, and one of the best ways to do this is to read books regularly and thoughtfully.

Books are doors that open up a lot of possibilities for you. They teach, educate, you can travel with them, dream, imagine, live other lives. Books can allow you to develop your potential, moreover, they will open your eyes to something that you did not notice before. Books broaden horizons, increase vocabulary, in addition, reading develops memory and thinking, while adding confidence to the one who reads. There are so many books out there that there is bound to be one that will become an integral part of the life.In turn, reading is also an integral part of the cultural development and spiritual life of society. Thanks to reading, it is possible to preserve, generalize and transmit cultural experience and knowledge from generation to generation.

The development of reading among young people is a priority in the system of higher education. It should be specially noted that this task is reflected in the Five Initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where the fourth initiative includes increasing the spirituality of young people and widely promoting a culture of reading. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No PD-3271 “On the program of comprehensive measures to develop the system for publishing and distributing book products, improving the culture of reading” dated September 13, 2017 the Branch of Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent is conducting significant activities to strengthen and improve the culture of reading among young people, organizing events aimed at the formation of civil-patriotic, moral and spiritual education.

In this regard, as well as within the framework of the effective organization of student leisure, on April 2, 2022, in the Student Dormitory 1, the faculty of the Foreign Languages ​​Department D.S. Razikova and I.T. Bakhramova held an event - a round table on the topic “My favorite book”. During this event, teachers spoke about the importance of reading, discussing with students which books are more suitable for the versatile development and formation of the personal qualities of the younger generation. The participants of the event noted that during the years of independence of the country, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, all the necessary conditions for the development of youth have been created. A favorable environment has been created in our country for the development of intellectually capable, purposeful and active individuals with a strong life position, who are not indifferent to the ongoing reforms in the country and who are ready to make a worthy contribution to the worthy future of their country.

In order to improve the culture of reading among students, it was recommended to read a variety of books, articles, publications, which today is more accessible due to the appearance of books in electronic format.

At the end of the event, the participating students asked questions to the teachers and received answers to all their questions. The event, held in the form of an open dialogue and exchange of views, was held in a friendly atmosphere, and at the end, the students expressed their gratitude to organizers.
