Branch students held a visiting event for students of the Lyceum

On November 20, 2021, the student section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of the Branch, together with the teachers of the Department of Oil and Gas Economics of the Branch, visited the academic lyceum under the Branch in order to conduct an open class  “Energy4Me”. The “Energy4Me” open class is an annual tradition of the section, within which it shares the basics of the oil and gas industry and reveals its importance for students of schools and lyceums, thereby developing their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) areas and helping them in choosing a future career.

The class has been held in the interactive format. The lecture was opened by acting Otto O.E., the Head of the Department of Economics of Oil and Gas, having introduced the lyceum students to general information about the Branch and briefly told the students about the areas of study, the structure of academic curricula, as well as active student life.

Further, there was a presentation made by 3-4 year students of the Branch, among whom were Ramis Tamazov, Nodira Ziyamakhomedova, Vladislav Shmakov, Saidamin Rakhimov, Gulnaz Ibraimova, Evgeny Duganov. They talked about the main sectors of the oil and gas industry, from geological exploration to the economy, which gave the students of the Lyceum the opportunity to better understand the specifics of each of them. The students of the lyceum asked questions about the existing professions in the field, their occupation and the nature of work, which indicated their considerable interest in the profession of “oilman”. In addition, they touched upon the problems existing in the industry, methods of their solution, innovative technologies, as well as related career paths.

The second half of the event was held in a more interactive format, as the “Petrogames” team game was launched. This time the game consisted of three rounds and covered general issues of the oil and gas industry, and also touched upon the presentation material. In total, 5 teams were formed, 5 participants each. Testing their erudition, all teams competed in a competitive spirit and actively sought to take first place. As a result of the game, the winning team received a commemorative souvenir set from SPE, the second and third place holders received gifts from the Branch.
