A conference on human rights with the participation of the Ombudsman was held at the Branch

The conference "Ensuring human rights and freedoms is the basis of all reforms in Uzbekistan" with the participation of Ombudsman Feruza Eshmatova was held at the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent.

Rrepresentatives of the ministries of higher and secondary specialized education, energy, JSC “Uzbekneftegaz”, the khokimiyat of Mirzo-Ulugbek district, the Main Department of Public Education of Tashkent, the capital's universities, the Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion Ijtimoy Fikr, students and professors participated in this meeting.

The participants heard the presentations of:

- Director of the National Center for Human Rights, First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Academician, A. Saidov (online);

- Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), prof., Doctor of Law F.Eshmatova;

- Deputy Director of the Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion "Ijtimoy Fikr" V. Alekseeva,

- Senior Lecturer of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines of the Branch D. Abdullaeva.

In her speech, Ombudsman F. Eshmatova spoke in detail about the achievements in recent years of the state human rights institution, the results of her activities in the position of the Commissioner for Human Rights, including the ongoing work on the implementation of relevant international norms, the intensification of cooperation with international organizations, NGOs, the media, planned events on legal education of citizens.

The Ombudsman focused special attention on the formation of the Parliamentary Commission of the Oliy Majlis on compliance with the international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights, on the work initiated by the President of Uzbekistan to ratify the optional protocol to the UN Convention against Torture and the suppression - as part of the implementation of the national preventive mechanism for the prevention of torture - all of them manifestations, inhuman or degrading treatment.

In his online speech, the director of the National Center for Human Rights, First Deputy Speaker of the Oliy Majlis, Akamal Saidov, briefly recalled the history of the formation of branches of Russian universities in Uzbekistan, including the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. He also noted the relevance of the topic of the conference at the Branch on the topic of ensuring human rights as the cornerstone of all reforms in the republic, spoke about the latest achievements of Uzbekistan in this area, recognized, in his words, as an object of study as an example of positive changes from many foreign countries.

As Dr. A. Saidov said, the recently acting head of the OSCE, Anne Linde, highly appreciated - as recognition of achievements in the field of human rights - the election of Uzbekistan as a member of the UN Council, and called the National Strategy on Human Rights, approved by the President of the Republic of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a model document for other states. ...

Akmal Saidov concluded, that he hoped that the students and the teaching staff of the Branch of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas would take an active part in the events initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, concluded Akmal Saidov and cited a quote from the book "The Little Prince" by A. Exupery, which is the most valuable in the world - human communication.
