“High legal culture is a guarantee of the country’s development”

The Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent held a meeting with representatives of the non-governmental non-profit organization “Madad”. The faculty staff of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines, employees and students of academic groups UEE-19-01 and UTP-19-02 attended this meeting.

Madad non-governmental non-profit organization was established in compliance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated September 9, 2019 No. 741 “On measures to further improve the system for providing legal information and providing legal assistance to the population”. The main goal of this institution is to help improve the legal awareness and legal culture of the population by providing them with free legal advice and practical legal assistance.

The legal aid portal advice.uz (e-maslahat.uz), which was created by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the radical improvement of the system for raising legal awareness and legal culture in society” dated January 9, 2019, provides online consultations.

This project was implemented by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the British Embassy in Uzbekistan. In addition, as noted by the experts of the NGO “Madad”, primary legal advice can be provided directly at an individual meeting with experts.

During the existence of this institution, over 70 000 citizens’ appeals have been received and free primary legal assistance was provided.

Detailed information was provided on the activities of the NGO “Madad”, on the activities of the regional offices and on the procedure for considering applications. The experts of “Madad” focused on the continuous improvement of legal awareness and legal culture by students, since, in violation of human rights and freedoms, a key factor is low legal awareness and legal culture.

The participants received answers to their questions. Following the meeting, there was a wish to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
