Fieldtrips at Shurtan Oil and Gas Production Directorate: Day One

Departure from the hotel at 7.30, detailed safety briefing, a series of sightseeing tours and lectures, departure back to the hotel at 18.00: this is how the first day of practice for the "Gubkin students" in Shurtan Oil and Gas Production Directorate passed.

The students of the Branch of Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent left the hotel at 7.30 am for the first on-site lesson in production. The road to the enterprise took 30 minutes, after which the children received a detailed instruction on the rules of conduct, etiquette and an interesting lecture on safety from the management specialists: head of the personnel department A. Abdullaev, chief engineer S. Rakhimov, head of the safety department Sh.Makhmudov.

In addition, students have been presented with thematic videos with a visual description of methods for preventing emergencies, rules of behavior in emergency situations to save human lives.

The “Gubkins” were also told the "secret" of the qualitative composition of the gas supplied to the enterprise, which, as it turned out, is produced at South Tandyrcha and Shurtan fields and consists of 85-90 percent of methane, 5 percent - ethane, propane, CO2 and only less than one percent - hydrogen sulfide.

Deputy Director for Research and Innovation Activities of the Branch S. Yunusov addressed the students with warm parting words, who also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Shurtan Oil Production Department for the high level of organization of field studies.

Classes in a “production environment”

In continuation of the first day at production, a practical lesson on the topic “Physical and geological foundations of gravity prospecting” was held, conducted by the teacher of the Branch Ksenia Tokareva, during which the students not only got acquainted with the theoretical material, but also outlined the information received in detail.

The next stage was a sightseeing tour of the Museum of History of the “Shurtan Oil and Gas Production Department”, where the deputy director for production I. Ostanov acted as a guide to the chronicle of labor achievements. In the process of describing the history of the plant, the deputy director presented a layout diagram of the enterprise, whose total area is 140 hectares.

The students have learned that in the early 2000s 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year were produced here, at present - 9 billion cubic meters of products, which part is directed to domestic consumption needs, part is exported, and the number of workers is the plant is no less than 4 thousand people.

In separate museum stands, costumes for protecting workers from gas emissions and fires, chemical reagents of instruments for indicators of the acidity level of the ph-environment, indicators of the level of hydrogen sulfide are presented.

The sightseeing tour was continued by the plant’s leading technologist H. Khaidarov, who led the students through the five blocks of the plant and told how the gas produced from the fields goes through the stages of degassing, cleaning, drying, after which it enters special tanks for storage.

Another review awaited the guys in the factory chemical laboratory. During the excursion, the students were introduced to the main goal of the department: to determine the quality of products, for which 10 main GOSTs and a separate GOST were developed for technical sulfur.

The head of the chemical laboratory explained what measures and actions are undertaken in case the purified gas may not meet the stated requirements.

In addition, the “Gubkins” have been explained the principles of operation of special instruments-chromatographers of modern and previous samples, the description of the reports presented by them and reflected in the reports and how the analysis of the component composition of liquefied gas is carried out. In particular, in the course of describing the operation of the distiller, the students learned how the liquefied gas is separated into fractions and goes into a gaseous state.

Throughout the day, intern students entered in detail all the information in the notes, on the basis of which they also compiled a report on the first day at the plant.
