Сongratulations to the people of Uzbekistan

Dear compatriots!

I sincerely congratulate you and all our people on today’s wonderful holiday of the Uzbek language.

We all remember well that the adoption in our country on October 21, 1989 in a difficult socio-political situation of the Law “On the State Language” was an important step towards gaining national independence.

As you know, taking into account the wishes of our public, the people, last year we adopted a law establishing this historic date as the Day of the Day of the Uzbek Language. I am sure that this holiday, which is widely celebrated today in the country for the first time, will take a lasting and worthy place in our life.

Dear friends!

The life-affirming power of our national language serves as an important support for us in building a new Uzbekistan, forming the foundation of a new Renaissance.

Caring for the development and future of the native language, which, while carefully preserving for many centuries, our ancestors passed on to us, means caring for the growth of national identity, spiritual improvement. After all, the authority of the state language, respect for it is respect for the people, the authority of the whole society.

The fact that today the Uzbek language is spoken by about 50 million people testifies to the fact that it is becoming one of the most widespread languages in the world.

At the same time, the necessary conditions are being created for the development of the culture, language and traditions of all nations and nationalities whose representatives live in our country. For this purpose, there are about 140 national cultural centers in different regions of the republic. Educational institutions and mass media of the country, along with the Uzbek language, also operate in the Karakalpak, Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik and Turkmen languages. A growing number of specialized educational institutions with in-depth study of foreign languages, as well as those where education is conducted in foreign languages.

Today, the Uzbek language and literature are studied in 65 universities abroad, more and more foreign scientists conduct their research in this area.

The other day in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the first time at the state level, it was celebrated as the Day of the holiday of the Uzbek language, which was received with great enthusiasm by the public of Uzbekistan, all our people.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to once again express my sincere gratitude to the leadership of brotherly Afghanistan for giving the Uzbek language an official status, for the great attention and respect shown to it. On behalf of our people, I cordially congratulate all representatives of our nation living in the ancient Afghan land on this wonderful holiday.

Dear compatriots!

We are facing big and responsible tasks for the development of the Uzbek language in the country based on modern requirements, further strengthening its role and authority as the state language.

For this purpose, the draft Law “On the State Language” in the new edition and, in accordance with this, the law on amendments and additions to some legislative acts have been prepared, both of which have been submitted for consideration by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

As you know, the President's Decree “On measures to further develop the Uzbek language and improve the language policy in the country” was signed yesterday.

The decree defines strategic goals, priority areas and tasks, stages of further development of the Uzbek language and language policy, including a radical increase in the authority of the Uzbek language in our society and in the international arena, education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism, respect for national values and traditions, ensuring full-scale the introduction of the state language in the country, the preservation and development of the languages of nations and nationalities, whose representatives live in Uzbekistan, the creation of conditions for the study of the Uzbek language as the state language.

To ensure the execution of the decree, we need to strengthen the work begun in the state language of all office work in the areas of public administration, modern, innovative technologies, industry, the banking and financial system, in the field of jurisprudence, diplomacy, medicine, as well as in the activities of law enforcement agencies and military departments ...

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that representatives of different nations and ethnic groups living in Uzbekistan as a single and friendly family also show great interest and desire to learn the Uzbek language.

For the implementation of these good aspirations of our citizens, it is of great importance to strengthen the motivation for learning the Uzbek language, the creation of special textbooks, dictionaries and teaching aids, video and audio materials, the widespread introduction of modern teaching methods.

As you know, in today’s world of globalization, the mutual influence of languages is increasing, including the scale and pace of borrowing foreign words. Unfortunately, we must admit that in our country this process occurs spontaneously and is not based on a scientific approach, in this regard, we need to take effective measures to change the current situation.

We should work actively to establish close cooperation with foreign universities and centers where the Uzbek language is taught as a separate subject, and to create educational literature for them.

It is necessary to consistently continue to implement measures to translate and publish in the Uzbek language the masterpieces of world literature and the best examples of Uzbek literature in foreign languages. It is necessary to strengthen the work on the development of creative schools in this area, the training of highly qualified literary translators and other specialized specialists.

On a systematic basis, it is necessary to continue the work begun in the country to publish such book series as “Monuments of Uzbek folk art”, “Masterpieces of Karakalpak literature”, “My first book”, “Masterpieces of world literature”.

It is also necessary to solve a number of important and urgent tasks in order to ensure the Uzbek language a worthy place in the international information space, in particular, on the Internet, and create new computer programs in our native language.

The decree “On wide celebration of the 580th anniversary of the birth of the great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi” signed on the eve of today's holiday was a logical continuation of our practical actions to further develop the Uzbek language and literature, our national culture.

Dear friends!

As the outstanding educator Abdulla Avloni said, the native language is a great force that uplifts the spirit of the nation.

Indeed, love and devotion to the Motherland begins with love and devotion to the native language.

I am sure that such an approach and attitude towards the native language will become a life credo for each of our compatriots, and our esteemed intelligentsia, active youth, and representatives of the public will serve as an example for all of us in this.

Dear compatriots!

Once again, I sincerely congratulate you on the Day of the holiday of the Uzbek language.

I wish you all health, happiness, peace and prosperity to your families.

May the glory and authority of our native Uzbek language always grow!

Shavkat Mirziyoyev

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
