Forum-contest of students highlighted the actual problems of chemistry

The Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M.Gubkin in Tashkent city held a forum-competition of students named "Topical issues of chemistry which was devoted to the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements of D.I. Mendeleev under the initiative of UNESCO.

In his welcome speech to the participants of the forum, the dean of the faculty Sh.M. Ravilov focused on the need and relevance of the practical component of student research, and its reference with production.

The scientific and practical event in the Branch covered such topical areas as environmental protection and environmental management; innovative approaches to solving the problems of the chemical and petrochemical industries; chemical technologies of inorganic substances and hydrocarbons; household chemicals. Totally 27 student reports were heard at the plenary sessions of the forum-competition.

Among the speakers the following students presented their works: Yekaterina Lukina, Evgeniy Evstafeyev, Shakhzod Nametjanov, Shukhrat Gafurov, Laylo Mirsaidova, Evgeniy Duganov and others.

The most important component of the forum was the presentation of the textbooks “Fundamentals of General and Inorganic Chemistry”, “Ecology”, “Laboratory Practicum in General and Inorganic Chemistry”, “Electrochemistry and Corrosion of Metals” issued by the authors Sh.A. Moskalenko.

From the history of the event. As you know, this year marks the 150th anniversary of one of the most significant achievements in world science - the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements Dmitri Mendeleev. It is noteworthy that the UN General Assembly supported the Russian initiative to declare 2019 the International Year of this brilliant discovery.

"The International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements gives its due to the potential for developing a solution required for ensuring sustainable development and helping scientists to predict the structures and properties of substances," the UNESCO message says.

The Organization called the table “A window into the Universe, in the main components of which a tool created by a Russian scientist helps to understand”.

Throughout the year, large-scale events dedicated to Dmitriy Mendeleyev and his scientific heritage are held in Uzbekistan and the world.

The International Year opened on January 29 with the holding of conference debates emphasizing the relevance of the Periodic Table in solving relevant problems in such areas as: health care; food security; oil and gas industry; energy The opening ceremony was made by the scientists of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016, whose discoveries played a crucial role in the synthesis and study of the latest heavy elements: from 104 to 118. The event also featured a presentation of the 1001 Invention: A Journey to Chemistry initiative.

In Russia a solemn opening of the International Year was held on February 6: the event was devoted to the Day of Science celebrated on February 8 and the birthday of Dmitriy Mendeleev.

In addition, the Branch of the Russian University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M.Gubkin in Tashkent city, following the performances of the participants of the Student Forum-contest, awarded the authors of the best reports and thematic wall newspapers.
