WEBINAR WITH THE NATIONAL RESEARCH UNIVERSITY “HIGHER SCHOOL OF ECONOMY” on the topic: “OIL AND ITS ROLE IN THE WORLD ECONOMY”

As part of the implementation of the “Complex of measures for cardinal improvement of activities, strengthening and modernization of the material and technical base, equipping with modern educational and scientific laboratories, means of modern information and communication technologies of the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent for the period 2021-2025” on the development of international cooperation, interuniversity relations with foreign educational and scientific partner institutions, on December 15, 2021, the Department of Economics of Oil and Gas held a joint online video webinar with the National Research University “Higher School of Economics”.

The lecturer, Ksenia Andreevna Bondarenko, teacher at the Department of World Economy at the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics, National Research University Higher School of Economics, delivered a lecture for 1st and 4th year students of the Economics direction on the relevant topic: “Oil and its role in the world economy”.

During the lecture Bondarenko K.A. emphasized the fact that since Colonel Drake drilled the first commercial oil well in the United States in 1859, the oil industry has undergone a number of changes over the centuries. For nearly 200 years, oil has been a source of undermining relationships between companies, countries and regions. It caused several economic crises, and the development of the oil industry predetermined the economic development of many countries. At the webinar, students, together with teachers, discussed the role of the oil sector in the modern world and what is happening on the oil market.

The listeners were greatly interested in such questions as: what determines the prices and why in the spring of 2020 they were negative? What makes them go up and down (supply / demand), and what is the role of OPEC (+). What does the oil sector hold in the future and what can somehow limit its growth and / or provide support? What are the prospects for the transition to the use of alternative energy sources, to the so-called “green” energy? What are sustainable energy projects?

The issues discussed at the webinar require further in-depth study. Joint webinars will continue in the future.
