Students of the Branch of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas in Tashkent actively participate not only in events within the walls of our educational institution, but also outside it. Our university is full of versatile and gifted students, developing both socially and scientifically.

PETROBOWL1

On April 16-17, the regional qualifying round of the large-scale championship of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) “PETROBOWL” was held online, in which 14 teams from such countries as Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan took part. The only representatives of our country who defended the honor of the university were activists of the SPE student section of the Branch: Omon Ochilov (URN-17-02), Ramis Tamazov (URG-18-01), Kamronmirzo Makhmudov (UTS-18-01), Eldor Utabekov (URG -19-01).

PETROBOWL2

It should be noted that PetroBowl was created by the SPE Gulf Coast Region. During the game, students of technical oil and gas universities compete with each other in a series of blitz rounds, answering technical and non-technical questions on industry topics. Each stage consisted of a total of 36 questions.

For about 2 months, the guys were preparing for the championship, studying a lot of literature on technical directions and games of past years. In addition, for better preparation, the section officers conducted a weekly trial game for the team in online mode, simulating the game itself.

PETROBOWL3

At the qualifying stage, the team of our Branch competed in the B-group with representatives of such universities as the Baku Higher School of Oil and Atyrau University of Oil and Gas named after S. Utebayev. Following the results of the first game, the guys successfully reached the semifinals, where they got into the strongest group of participants with Gubkin’s and Nazarbayev’s, as well as the Kazakh-British Technical University. Despite this, the team competed with dignity with its rivals and took the honorable 6th place among all 14 teams, which is one position higher than last year, when the team of the Branch, participating in the game for the first time, took 7th place. Heading for success next year, our section aims to get into one of the three prizes.

PETROBOWL4

In addition to the game itself, it is important to note the high level of organization of the championship by specialists from the oil and gas industry of the region and representatives of society. At the opening and closing ceremonies, honorary speakers were the President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Tom Blasingheim, a professor at Texas A&M University, as well as many other industry professionals, including Ignatiy Volnov, now the SPE Regional Director, who previously chaired Tashkent section of SPE and made a significant contribution to development of the student section of the Branch.
