Message from the President: A New Milestone in the Development
Students and faculty members listened to the Message from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis at the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent. The program document focuses on higher education and science.
In his speech, the head of state touched on all spheres of the country's life and gave instructions on solving specific problems for the coming year.
In his Address to the Parliament, Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared 2020 the Year of the Development of Science, Education and the Digital Economy. In his address speech, the President of Uzbekistan noted that deep structural transformations had begun in the energy sector, oil and gas industry, geology and a number of other industries. Speaking about the goal set to enter a number of developed countries, the head of the country emphasized that it is possible to achieve it only by implementing accelerated reforms, relying on science, education and innovation.
According to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for this we, first of all, need to educate the personnel of the new formation, who initiate the reforms, have a strategic vision, deep knowledge and high qualifications.
“Science and education are crucially important for enhancing the intellectual and spiritual potential of not only young people, but also of our entire society. Where science does not develop, regression, backwardness of society in all areas are observed. The great thinkers of the East said: "The greatest wealth is reason and science, the greatest inheritance is good education, the greatest poverty is the lack of knowledge." The desire to acquire modern knowledge, to be enlightened and to have a high culture should become a vital need for all of us”, - the head of state emphasized in the Message to the Oliy Majlis.
The leader of Uzbekistan has noted that "on the basis of foreign experience, higher education standards will be improved, its directions and structure of the studied disciplines will be reviewed, the number of disciplines not related to the acquired specialty will be reduced 2 times".
- We have to determine specific priorities in the field of science. Not a single state is capable of developing all branches of science at the same time. Therefore, every year we will pay attention to the development of several important areas. This year, measures will be taken to broadly develop basic and applied research in such fields as mathematics, chemistry and biology, geology, and all conditions have been created for scientists. It is necessary to form an electronic platform of scientific achievements, a base of domestic and foreign scientific developments.
Each higher educational and research institution needs to establish cooperation with leading foreign universities and research centers, - this has been emphasized at the President’s Message.
“If we work together, unitedly and conscientiously, we will be able to conquer the highest frontiers, open a new glorious page in the history of our people”, - concluded Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan.
