Ecological Marathon

Over 30 future graduates of the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.М.Gubkin in Tashkent city - the developers of oil fields and geophysics participated in the ecological marathon “Bright future in the pure present” initiated by the Union of Youth and the Science Students’ Union.

10 km distance of the environmental project under the leadership of Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of General Chemistry and Chemistry of Oil and Gas, Sh. Arslanov (Tashkent) and Associate Professor of the Department “Development of Oil, Gas and Gas Condensate Fields” A. Dengayev (Moscow) ran along the ascent route to Maly Chimgan through the most picturesque mountain tract in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region.

Students very seriously prepared for the project. They tried to envisage all the details - from ammunition in the form of T-shirts with the university logo to the organization of transport and food. After overcoming few-hour relocation, a camp was set up at the base of the “Chimgan” recreation complex, and within the project they arranged a soccer and volleyball competition.

Thanks to the preceding trainings, mountain climbing on hiking trails reminded us of a take-off and was a breeze. The inspiration was facilitated by the national flag of Uzbekistan and the flag bearing the logo of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.М.Gubkin. The same flags, only smaller, were on students’ backpacks. It is noteworthy that if for some participants of the environmental marathon, going to the mountains was not unusual, for another part - from Bukhara, Fergana, Kashkadarya, Andijan and other regions, this was the first acquaintance with the tourist attractions of the capital region. However, all of them were astonished by the marvelous world of mountain nature.

The ecological project “Bright future in the pure present” provided for an action on cleaning the route of the hike from debris. The thunderstorm and hail that came later did not change the plans. They coped with the elements in an organized way and completed the task.

The marathon ended with great impressions, unforgettable memories and, of course, pleasure for the work done.

Diana Kurmakayeva, 3rd year student, member of the Youth Union of Uzbekistan: “This is already the fourth ecological marathon in the group. In my opinion, such projects facilitate better understanding the world around us, contribute to team-building. I myself came from Bukhara, from my school years I was interested in technology, and therefore studying at the Branch will help to realize my dream of my favorite profession: after graduating from high school, I will become an oil development engineer. I am responsible for my choice: this is sports training - I have been involved in athletics for more than 10 years - daily morning runs, as well as organizing team competitions, and doing science, I have published two scientific articles on the topic of well equipment and one on youth initiatives. To develop one’s abilities, to become a good specialist in the future, is to contribute to the prosperity of the Motherland”.
