9th International Conference "FLTAL" -2019

The 9th International Conference on Current Problems of Teaching Foreign Languages ​​and Applied Linguistics “FLTAL” -2019 on the topic: “Creative potential of multilingual personality: the issue of the influence of the factor of multilingualism on the process of learning a foreign language” has been held for the first time in Uzbekistan on May 2, 2019.

The conference was organized by the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M.Gubkin in Tashkent city, the Korea University of International Studies (KUIS - Korea University of International Studies, Seoul) as well as and NOU "ERIELL Prof Education" in Tashkent.

Specialists from Austria, Belarus, Bolivia, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Canada, China, New Zealand, Russia, Ukraine, France, Ecuador and other countries participated in the conference.

The honored guests of the conference were representatives of “Uzbekneftegaz” JSC, rectors of universities, over 300 specialists and teachers of higher educational institutions.

The conference was moderated by Azamat Akbarov, chairman of the Foreign Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics Association (FLTAL), doctor of philology, professor at Pusan ​​National University (PNU).

With a welcoming speech, the 9th International Conference FLTAL -2019 was opened by Deputy Director - Executive Director the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M Gubkin in Tashkent, Professor Magrupov Abdulla Mahmudovich. In his speech he has noted that “The rapidly developing international relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan with foreign countries, the integration of science - education and production, sharply actualize the issues of knowledge of foreign languages ​​in the training of highly qualified personnel in all sectors of the economy. In accordance with the tasks set by the President of our Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the Message to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and in the Action Strategy for the Further Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, large-scale comprehensive events including with foreign partners, scientific and practical projects are organized in the republic. And as a confirmation of this, the international conference organized today has brought together over 300 specialists from the countries of the near and far abroad.

In this regard we would like to particularly note the attention paid to the study of a foreign language in our Branch. Every year, students of the Branch participate in international competitions, winning prizes, and just a week ago our student with a report presented in English became a winner at the International Conference "Oil and Gas 2019" held in Moscow, we are really proud of it!”

The “FLTAL” -2019 was organized as 58 seminars in 16 areas, 20 master classes, an exhibition of educational books of OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS publishing house.

Conference speakers:

Professor Cynthia White is a professor of applied linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities and director of science at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Massey University (New Zealand). Cynthia White has published two books (Cambridge University Press) and over 60 articles and monographs on distance and online learning of languages, migration, emotions, and identity.

Professor Gary Barkheisen is a professor at the School of Culture, Language and Linguistics at the University of Auckland (New Zealand). His teaching and research interests are related to the education of teachers, research in the field of narration, as well as the individuality of teachers and students. The scientist is a former co-editor of the magazine “Learning to teach the language”. Currently involved in a number of projects that use a narrative approach to study language learning, teacher identity, language learning and identity, including when studying abroad and in the context of migration.
