Basic Higher Educational Institution of the Oil and Gas Industry

Cooperation of Uzbekistan with Russian energy companies which are at the leading positions in investments facilitates implementation of the potential of the republic in the fuel and energy sector. In parallel with major joint projects and the supply of natural gas and oil, the fruitful cooperation between our countries is also being developed in an equally important segment of relations - the field of educating qualified specialists.

The success of any industry depends on the level of the personnel education. The Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent city which since 2011 has been included in the structure of “Uzbekneftegaz” JSC with the methodological guidance over the educational process by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The efficiency and potential of the university were highly appreciated and on December 5, 2017 the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin was awarded with the medal “Dustlik” for the great contribution to the education and training of qualified specialists for the oil and gas industry of our country.

During 11-years period of performance Tashkent branch has prepared thousands of specialists for the industry. Currently 940 students are studying in seven various education directions.

It should be noted that last year, according to the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, there was opened Kashkadarya regional preparation department. The region was not chosen by chance: there are many oil and gas fields in the region, and the consecutive demand for qualified specialists is high. Of the 253 students who started this year, 43 are acquiring knowledge in the new department.

The Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent city closely cooperates with industry-specific production and research organizations, in particular, with “Uzneftegazdobycha” JSC, “Uzburneftegaz”, “Uztransgaz”, “Uznefteproduct”, “Shurtan Gas Chemical Plant” LLC, “Lukoil Uzbekistan Operating Company” where students participate in all types of practices and carry out research and development activities.

Requirements for applicants are rather high. Therefore, with the aim of enhancing the chances of gifted boys and girls to enter a university, the branch cooperates with educational institutions in Tashkent. Interacting with them is important to identify students who have an interest and aspiration for work in the oil and gas industry.

Students of the Tashkent branch actively participate in public life, in such student sections as the Youth Union, student scientific society (SSS) and the section SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers). Each of them undertakes a lot of efforts to organize active and efficient leisure of students. For example, SSS develops creative abilities, supports talented young people, organizes the interaction of students, graduate students and young scientists of the university, contributes to the realization of their rights to participate in the management of the educational process.

The university cooperates with almost all specialized universities in the world. Last year, the World Petroleum Council published a list of universities in which it is worth getting an “oil and gas” education. They turned out to be only 16 for the whole world. From Russia and the countries of the former Union, the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin was the only included in this list.

Research and development activities carried out at the university is aimed at meeting the needs of production. Two thirds of the research is represented by direct orders from oil and gas companies, and a third is government orders. Cooperation with specialized companies is very important. First, it gives us financial support - we get the opportunity to use the best equipment and training programs. Secondly, our students participate in practical training in those industries where they will be employed in the future. As a result they get reliable materials for course and diploma projects.

Thus, our students acquire knowledge testified by real practice. We are educating worthy personnel for the oil and gas industry, thus university graduates are our pride.
