The seminar under the slogan “Education against ignorance” was held at the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin in Tashkent.

As the organizers noted, the event was held in order to implement measures to prevent the spread of ideas of extremism among young people in educational institutions and stimulate their interest in science and profession, put forward for discussion at an expanded meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held on January 12, 2021 under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The event on a relevant topic was attended by students of academic groups UGF-19-01, UGI-19-01, URN-19-01, URG-18-01, Deputy Dean for Youth Affairs, leader of the Youth Union, teachers of the Department of Social and Humanitarian disciplines, employees of the Branch.

Komiljon Sultanov, the head of the department “Manaviyat and Marifat” and for work with youth of the Branch, who opened the seminar, introduced the invited guest of the educational event - senior lecturer of the Tashkent Islamic University Farkhod Juraev.

In his speech, the expert explained in detail to the students the essence of the historical unity and harmony of national, religious and universal values, the relevance of the formation of a high culture of religious tolerance among young people.

The guest also gave historical facts about the origin in ancient Greece in the 3rd century BC. Academy of Plato and the first, most ancient, academy in the East “Bayt al-Hikma” - the House of Wisdom in the 9th century BC.

It was noted at the seminar that the call “Ignorance is the gravest crime” sounded in the East five centuries ago. At that time, progressive thinkers believed that ignorance is dangerous to society because of such pernicious phenomena that it engenders as fratricide, betrayal, following militant fanatics and conflicts unleashed by them, which claim innocent lives. Scientists and cultural figures of that time identified a lack of knowledge to resist hostile and alien actions that destroy the spiritual and cultural values of humanity as a whole as the cause of ignorance.

It is noteworthy that in different languages of the world, ignorance is given almost the same definition: in particular, lack of knowledge, ignorance, underdevelopment, backwardness - in Russian, in English ignorance – “Ignore” is translated as ignore, not to take into consideration. The common interpretation of the harmful phenomenon is ignorance and stubborn unwillingness to know, recognize and cognize. An example of ignorance in general is the violent opposition to virtually every outstanding discovery in science by scientists for whom they were accused of blasphemy and destroyed all the works they created. According to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, if our ancestors had not been killed, great discoveries could have been made with their knowledge and science.

As the organizers concluded, events such as an educational seminar and a book presentation are seen as relevant for the implementation of the tasks of maintaining peace and tranquility, increasing the vigilance of teachers, students, youth in the fight against various destructive ideas, fanaticism, radicalism and other negative consequences of anti-Islamic movements.
