Mathematics - at the forefront of online

The transition to distance learning at the same time provided an opportunity to "check the clock" to the masters of world science. At the department of "Mathematics and Informatics" of the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin hosted an international online seminar with the participation of leading experts from Uzbekistan, the USA, Spain, Russia, Oman, Kazakhstan and Malaysia, which was led by a world-famous mathematician - academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, professor Shavkat Alimov.

It should be noted that the presence of the outstanding scientist Academician Shavkat Alimov as a moderator-leader of the online seminar empowered this event at the Branch with a significant status.

Among foreign guests in the webinar on the topic “Determination of the order of fractional derivative for subdiffusion equations” - “Determining the order of the fractional derivative for subdiffusion equations” participated: Professor Sobir Umarov (University of New Haven, USA), Professor Umida Boltaeva (University of Deusto, Spain), Professor Abdumalik Rakhimov (International Islamic University, Malaysia), Professor Kholmat Imamnazarov (Institute of Computational Mathematics and Geophysics SB RAS, Russia), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Roman Parovik (Kamchatka State University, Russia), Professor Arsen Pskhu (Institute Applied Mathematics and Automation - a branch of the KBSC RAS, Russia), PhD Erkin Karimov (Sultan Qaboos University, Oman), Professor Mahmud Sadibekov (Institute of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan), Professor Botir Turmetov (Kazakh-Turkish International University, Kazakhstan).

From domestic universities, in addition to the faculty staff of the department of "Mathematics and Computer Science" of the Branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) named after I.M. Gubkin, including Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, professor Sirojiddin Dzhamalov, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, professor Alinazar Khojimetov, specialists from the Institute of Mathematics named after V.I.  Romanovsky Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, faculty of the National University of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University, Bukhara State University, Fergana State University, Karshi State University, Termez State University.

The experts were very interested in the reports of Sobir Umarov, a professor at New Haven University (Boston, USA), and the head of the laboratory of the V.I.Romanovsky Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Ravshan Ashurov. In their studies, the speakers considered, in particular, such relevant contemporary areas as the study of the accuracy of direct and inverse problems for equations with fractional differentiation. The solutions obtained on the basis of this theory make it possible to construct mathematical models of a number of practical problems; in particular, the processes of coronavirus spread (COVID-19). As it was noted by prof. Sobir Umarov (USA), in building a model for the spread of infection, he relied on data in the absence of quarantine measures, which once again demonstrates their need as a counteracting barrier against infection.

Participants in the mathematical forum came to the conclusion that the issues discussed are very relevant in modeling and predicting the spread of coronaviruses. Given the scientific benefits, it was decided to hold similar events within the walls of the Branch in the future. In addition, scientists praised the Branch’s equipment with modern ICT technologies, as well as expressed their gratitude to the Branch’s management for their support in organizing the forum.
